Empowering Leaders' Symposium 2026

Recent updates to Local Alternative Assessments (LAA) and Permissive Local Alternative Assessments (PLAA) are shaping how social studies is assessed and how students earn verified credit. This session is designed to provide K–12 leaders with a clear, practical overview of what has changed and what it means for their schools. In addition to understanding what has changed, leaders will explore the implications for scheduling, staffing, and instructional planning, including shifts in scoring responsibilities and the use of performance-based assessments. Time will be dedicated to highlighting key considerations for implementation and preparing schools for upcoming guidance and timelines.
